Celebrating 100 Years of Women’s Right to Vote
The spectacular Tennessee Woman Suffrage Monument was dedicated on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, the 100th anniversary of Tennessee’s all-important ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment which gave women the right to vote. Sonya Wright has supported the construction of the monument and has volunteered with the Perfect 36 Society to help provide awareness of the 19th Amendment.
The program was livestreamed, and broadcast on Nashville WTVF Channel 5, WSMV Channel 4, and Fox 17. Channel 5 added footage at the last of the program, and the link to the combined livestream and Channel 5 broadcast is here: https://vodayo.com/womansuffragemonument/.
The Monument consists of larger-than-life bronze statues of five woman suffragists – national leader Carrie Chapman Catt, and Tennessee suffragists Anne Dallas Dudley of Nashville, Sue Shelton White of Jackson, J. Frankie Pierce of Nashville, and Abby Crawford Milton of Chattanooga. The statues are located on a beautiful limestone plaza just southeast of the Parthenon in Nashville’s Centennial Park.
