SW to participate in Women’s Equality Day

Smith-Wright will be participating in the unveiling of the Women’s Suffrage Monument August 26, 2016, at Centennial Park. This is a historic occasion and it is especially fitting that the unveiling is occurring on the Women’s Equality Day, the day proclaimed each year to commemorate the day that women gained the right to vote throughout our country. This historic commemoration will honor the suffragists who fought so diligently for Tennessee to become the 36th state – the last state needed – to ratify the 19th Amendment, which resulted in all American women gaining the right to vote. This event will also honor three modern-day Tennessee Trailblazers, whose careers were made possible by the suffragists’ victory. It is our hope that the Woman Suffrage Monument will bring the Tennessee women suffragists the honor they deserve. To learn more about the monument, read here.
